"I can do it on my own!"
Silence
"I know but I trying to.. you know..help."
"Well,I don't need it."
She slowly & steadily walked towards the bed. Focusing on each step.She let out a soft sigh when her head hit the pillow.
"Are you ok?"
He stood in the doorway keeping at a safe distance. Still watching over her.
"What do you think?"
More Silence.
"Is there something I can do? Turn on the t.v.?"
"No,I like the silence."
He kept his eyes on her as she stared at the ceiling.
"Look,if you have someplace you need to be you should go. I won't be much fun."
"There is no where I need to be,other than right here."
"I feel like shit."
"You look like it too."
The both looked at each other & began to laugh. He walked over & slid into bed with her.
"You know this will end soon."she whispered.
"I know."
"You can't be upset when this is over. You knew what you were getting yourself into.I just hope you realize...."
"Shhhhh..."
She was too tired to say anymore.Her head rested on his chest.Her humming lingered in the air as the sun began to set,darkening the room. Her hums soon turned to muffled sobs.
He just closed his eyes & listened to her cry.
